Oil spill

Poor Mr Pelican! He doesn't look happy, does he?  Look at all the oil on his feathers.

Well done to the staff of the Environmental Department in Brisbane who helped this poor pelican and several other birds that were covered in oil. There was an oil spill at the Port of Brisbane and the birds were affected by it. There was a cormorant that was very ill and had to be taken into care by the wildlife people. The pelicans were able to swim but, because of the oil on their bodies, could not fly.
The officers of the Environmental Department were able to catch and wash the pelicans so that they could return to their habitats safely.

The ship that spilt the oil will be under investigation and will probably have to pay a fine.
