Table top Christmas Trees

Hello Everyone.

Today let's make a Christmas tree that can be used as a cute decoration or even as a centrepiece for the table.

You are going to need:

A magazine about the size of The Australian Women's Weekly
Spray on paint (acrylic paint will do if you aren't allowed the spray stuff)
A stapler
Tinsel and maybe some little decorations
Glue

You fold the magazine as shown in the picture below.

Once the whole magazine has been folded, staple the covers together to form a cone shape.  This is the basic tree shape.

Now the fun part  starts.  You get to decorate the tree.  You can paint it, like in the picture and add a pom-pom or star to the top.

I like to paint it green and then cover it with glue (either paste or very carefully use a hot glue gun).
Then I wind tinsel all around it so that it is totally sparkly.  It looks really terrific!!

Have fun making these little Christmas trees and decorating them.  Send me some pictures when you are done.

Bye now.

Taya.

Two Free Reading Sites for Kids

Today I have a couple of free sites for you to try out.

The first one is Storyline Online.

This site  features well-known actors and actresses reading some of their favorite children’s books.  Each story comes with a free Activity Guide and can be viewed on YouTube or SchoolTube.  Rainbow Fish, Wilfrid Gordon Macdonald Partridge, and To Be a Drum are just a few of the books available.

Next is Read to Me.

This is similar to Storyline Online. Actors read stories and there are activity guides and craft ideas for you to work on.
At the beginning is a little introduction video to explain how the site works.

Have at look at these sites and enjoy some stories.  Don't forget to tell me which ones you liked best.

Bye.

Wow!

Author E. J. Gore was visiting with some kids on the weekend and signing their copies of Taya Bayliss books.

While she was talking with them, Miss Marie drew and painted this portrait of me. I look very serious and determined, don't I?

Isn't it fantastic!   I love it!

Thank you, Marie.  I am sticking on the wall of E. J's office so she is inspired to write more stories about me.

If you have any pictures of me or Chris or Minnie, send them to info@ejgore.net so we can share with everyone.

Bye.

Eeeeek!

A friend of mine has recently found a very, very large and long snake skin in her garden. it was longer than her husband is tall and was as wide as his fist. Yikes!

Now, today, she posted this picture.

If that wouldn't speed up your visit to the bathroom, I don't know what would.

Thank goodness Fifi doesn't do things like that.

What would you do if you saw a snake coming out of the bathroom light fitting?

Unusual Snake.

Hello,
As you  know, my new adventure 'Snake Charmer' is now available.

Go here to buy it.

As you also know, I am not a huge snake fan, but I wanted to show you this snake. It is really pretty to look at....if snakes can be pretty.

It is a San Francisco Garter Snake.  These snakes are designated as endangered and come in a variety of multicoloured patterns. Their preferred habitat is near creeks or marshy areas where they can catch frogs and other little water creatures.

Here's a link for you to follow if you would like to know more about these snakes.

San Francisco Garter Snake

I think they are very nice to look at but I won't be setting up any fan clubs for them. Snakes are not my favourite creatures.
I'll just stick to Minnie...she's my kind of pet.  (No offence, Fifi.)

See ya.

Girl Power

I found a really cool website for kids/teens, particularly girls.
It's all about empowering girls to realise their full potential.

They have some great shirts and jumpers there too.  Have a look at these.

I love them all, but my favourite is the hoodie.  They come in different colours so you can choose your favourite slogan in your favourite colour and style.

Go to www.amightygirl.com to see all the stuff they have there.  There's books, school equipment, clothing and toys.  You should definitely check it out.

Tell 'em Taya sent you.

Bye now.

Drawing Competition

E. J. Gore is planning to change the covers of her books about my adventures.

So to help her, I thought I would invite you all to send in your drawings of the people or places in the stories.

You could draw Minnie the big woolly dog, or maybe, the lighthouse where Mae and I had all that trouble.

You might want to try to make a painting like the one Davey sent to Mae, or maybe, sketch a brightly coloured parrot like the ones that I saw at the bird sanctuary.

Send your entries to info@ejgore.net

I am looking forward to seeing them.  I love competitions, don't you?

Miss Minette won a competition this week.  She won a month's worth of doggy treats.  She is very excited about that.

Happy Drawing!

Taya

Check it out, this is the new new cover design for Taya Bayliss - Treasure Hunter.  What do you think?  Do you like it?

The other books are getting makeovers too, and I will be able to show you their new covers soon.

Send me a message and tell me what you think.  I am so excited about these new designs.

More news soon. Stand by.

See 'ya!

Back to School

It's time to go back to school. Summer holidays are over and the books have to come out again. I am in Year seven this year and I do my lessons by distance education which is like home school.

Because we have to travel about so often when Dad has to do his research trips, my parents decided that it would be best for me to be home-schooled. That way I would be able to do my school work wherever we were and I wouldn't miss out on any education.

My lessons come by post and by email and I have to send assignments in to my tutor.  It's kind of cool because I get a lot more free time. I do miss having classmates right there with me but I still have classmates. They are all over the country and we can chat online whenever we want to.

The best bit about going back to school is the new books and stationery.  I love pens and pencils and clean unused books.  I always start out the year being soooo neat in my notebooks and I really, really try to keep being neat but, by the end of Term One, my writing is not quite so neat and I have started to draw little pictures in the margins.

I like covering my books too  It can be a tricky thing to do.  Here is a video of how to put that sticky Contact paper on your books without ending up with a bubbly mess.

That should help you make your books look good.

Good luck in school this year.

Not for the Guys

The holidays are drawing to a close and it is super hot.  I really hope that things have cooled down a bit before we have to go back to school.  I hate trying to think when it is really hot.

What to do when it is so hot, is always a problem.  You can go swimming, if you are lucky enough to have a pool or live near the beach or you can play water games.
But you need inside activities to keep you busy too.

So…paint your nails.  Yes, I know that's a bit girly and I am not usually into really girly things but the nail art lessons over at Totally The Bomb are really fun and different.  Start out with the Puffle Nails and then you can go on to the dripping slime nails or maybe, the mermaid tail nails.

Look here to have a go at some nail art for yourselves.

A new adventure

Author E. J. Gore is hard at work on my latest adventure.  Sometimes she takes a long time to get the story told, so if you are impatient to read it, pester her about it.  You can contact her through this blog or at www.tayabaylissbooks.com .

At least the cover is looking good.  What do you think?

There will probably be a contest or giveaway coming up before the book is launched so watch out for that.

Bye.

Heat Wave

We are having a heat wave at the moment.  Summer is not my favourite time of year.  I don't like the sweaty hot days and, even worse, the sweaty hot nights.

But, since we have to put up with the weather, the best thing to do is have a water fight.

Unless you can get to the beach or into a swimming pool, squirt guns and water balloons are the best way I know to keep cool.

You need to set up the battle field a bit before you start the game so that there are places to hide and targets that have to be captured.  Whatever happens to be in the area works…trees, sheds, post boxes, even cars. Don't tell Dad I said that.  He is not overly pleased when his car has traces of water balloon all over it.  Eek!

Then, once you have the rules organised - like who is on which team and what needs to be captured and what happens when you are hit etc.- it's on.  Get wet, have fun, stay cool.

Most of the $2 shops sell water balloons and squirt guns.  You can get really super duper models or just simple ones like in the picture. as long as you have a ready supply of water for refills, you're set.

Go for it!!
